last days

[ from the dept. ]

The last days were quite hectic, I should write down a plan of what to do… The new Independant Indymedia Site for Scotland has been set up.
It is till very faulty, and i hope that after having had to wait for half a year for this page, that sorting out its mistakes won’t take as long.
Now I get the hang of it the Imc UK Scotland subsection seems to be much easier in admin, and I even start people teaching the admin site. (unfortunately with limited success so far.)

I wonder and hope if more people will get involved with the new site than the old one, I really do hope so, but it is all so confusing now and how to get people on board is really not a skill of mine.

There is quite a confusion when and where these filmmakers will turn up in the end. Also I have to finish a project for the computer course for next wednesday. It would have been very nice, if we would have been told after one hour and not after 7 that we totally missed out on the project theme, for which we had 2 days. One day totally spoiled.
It would have been quite funny in a way, if it wouldn’t be so disappointing and disencouraging.

On Saturday I went to the protest against Dungavel Detention Centre. I extra borrowed out a camcorder for the weekend and was so keen to use it.
The weather was perfect, but the camcorder didn’t work. Some of the settings were changed, and I had no clue about which settings w´mean what and why and how to change it. Sometimes it would have been nice to have a look in the instructions for use.
Also the borrowed camera did give up its job. The batteries were apparantly too weak. and though i had at least 5 new sets of batteries it just gave up working in the most important moments.

At least the audio did work a little bit, but the interviews are very confusing, and it will take me ages to sort out.

Also there are all the actions coming up for dsei and so on, and I just wished I could do that full time. There are so many stories untold or the way they are told by the mainstream media is just too distorting.

The Panther

[ from the dept. ]

The Panther

His gaze, going past those bars, has got so misted
with tiredness, it can take in nothing more.
He feels as though a thousand bars existed,
and no more world beyond them than before.

Those supply powerful paddings, turning there
in tiniest of circles, well might be
the dance of forces round a center where
some mighty will stands paralyticly.

Just now and then the pupils’ noiseless shutter
is lifted. – Then an image will indart,
down through the limbs’ intensive stillness flutter,
and end its being in the heart.

[Rainer Maria Rilke]

Actually it sounds odd in english translation, but it is incredibly strong in German:

[Rainer Maria Rilke]

Another waste of a day

[ from the dept. ]

I have been writing a whole long text on Sunday about EF! and enviromentalism and such, but unfortunately it logged me out, opera crashed and everything was lost. But it isn’t a huge loss, because it was all getting a bit too weird anyway..
To not make the same mistake again I’ll save the text right now.

Anyway i found out in the meantime, that any links I’ll do in the text might be displayed in the right column, that seems to be quite practical to me.
What’s new?
The Edinburgh Flashcrowd has announced another media stunt,.. I won’t be there, hopefully. As soon as the media interest is over, I am sure these stuff will be dying, at least by the people who organise this at the moment. I just can’t imagine them going on with this stuff once the cameras have lost interest, which they will probably soon, because once the story is broken, it makes no sense repeating it unless a new angle or point of view is found to make the story interesting.

Well, I just got very upset yesterday with the Colombia feature. I have been translating articles for ages at least about 4 days, and it just got ignored by the global imc feature crew. Then I just got stuck in august and wondered why all my postings didn’t get through on the list- time warp…but people constantly replying.. Arrgh.
Hmm. i wrote some angry emails, which I probably shouldn’t have done.
Just wondering why you always have to write angry emails or otherwise you’ll get ignored, (at least most of the time if you are a woman) or your concerns or issues get ignored.
Must be coinciding with the newspaper-in-meetings-syndrome… .
