I have been looking at Wikipedia recently and noticing criticisms associated with supposed “leftist” journos and commentators such as Noam Chomsky, John Pilger, George Monbiot etc. I must say I dislike the allocation of terms such as leftist or conservative to people as it smacks to me of the eager readiness of humans to classify everything to understand it better. I think alot of the so-called “leftists” would not bother to classify themselves and simply want to tell their stories they care about, your comment about a caring attitude being important in your Jon Snow book review is relevant here. But the dislike of the term “leftist” or “lefty” is not meant as a criticism of your writing I hasten to add :-) However I digress, in searching through Wikipedia entries to see if the same intense scrutiny is given to media sources reporting the mainstream as those with an under reported point of view I decided to google the terms “jon snow political stance” and came up with your blog. I must say I enjoyed reading your review of his book and also your thoughts on the general British public rather than the perception of the “British” in the minds of many people from other countries.

The point of this comment anyway is simply to let you know I enjoy your blog and am glad I came across it. One of things that frustrates me about criticism of people trying to report issues largely undocumented in the mainstream media is that it too often ends up with a mass of words getting bogged down in small scale refutations of points when it seems the events demand action. I may be confused but it seems to me that there is a failure to acknowledge root causes of situations, for instance arguements for and against the merits of sanctions in Iraq never seem to look at the fact that Saddam Hussein was supported by Western powers who helped put him in place and provide him with weapons. It is fickle greed that leads the West to support numerous regimes with weapons and then complain about how those weapons are used. We try to keep guns off the streets here in the UK, our own country, but swamp many other countries with guns which go on to be used to kill civilians. Well I won’t go on about it because I’m sure I’m just preaching to the converted.
